JE Dunn Construction relocated over 10,000 feet of water, storm sewer, wastewater, electrical, natural gas, and telecommunications utility lines to accommodate the construction of 1801 and 1601 office buildings, and the underground parking garage and pedestrian mall (packages 4-6).
What’s Happening Beneath the Surface?
Utilities are deceiving. You can’t see them, or feel them, but underneath the surface, there is an intricate web of water, gas, and power lines zigzagging to support basic human functions.
JE Dunn’s Package 1 Excavation and Package 2 Utilities Relocation were intricately woven together. Relocating the existing utilities was vital to the success of our massive excavation, as well as the daily operations of the campus.
JE Dunn encountered over 25 known utilities while digging and five additional utilities that were unforeseen. This proved to be the most challenging element of the project.
The Capitol Complex Project is broken up into six projects between several contractors, however, the pieces of the larger puzzle are deeply interconnected. The model above illustrates the intersection of four different projects. Differentiating from one project to the next is almost impossible.
Constant communication and collaboration were required from all the contractors on-site to support the success of each package, but more importantly the Capitol Complex as a whole.
