Texas Capitol Mall and Parking Garage 18th and 16th Street blocks – (Package 6)

Texas Capitol Mall and Parking Garage 18th and 16th Street blocks – (Package 6)

The Texas Capitol Mall runs from MLK Blvd to 16th Street. Each block is considered a project area. Section A is the most northern section of the Texas Mall near the Bob Bullock Museum. This section is almost complete. The grass lawn is in place and the sidewalks across the mall are complete. The amphitheater in front of the Bush building and the granite marker at MLK Blvd are complete. Just a few finishing touches remain like installing the park benches and cleaning the portals.

Section B is the area between 18th Street and 17th Street, with the William B. Travis State Office Building on the east and the Stephen F. Austin State Office Building on the west. This will be the last section to be completed, as it is the staging area for landscaping supplies. TFC is also restoring the landscaping around both the Travis and Austin buildings.

Section C of the Mall is between the 17th Street ramps and 16th Street. This section of the Capitol Mall is almost complete and 16th Street has been repaved. Both the east and the west entrance ramps to the Mall Garage on 17th Street have also been paved in preparation for the opening of the garage.

Once completed the underground parking garage will be for the sole use of State employees. Tenants from the Barbara Jordan, William B. Travis, and the Stephen F. Austin buildings located along Congress Avenue or any other State buildings near the Texas Capitol Mall will be allowed to park in this garage. (Note: The tenants of the George H.W. Bush Building will park in that building’s parking garage.)
